It is always so much fun when a friend contacts me to inquire about a session…add a cherry on top when that friend is also an awesome photographer who really ‘gets it’! I had so much fun hanging out with the B family and exploring this gorgeous area near their home. It was way more like a nature walk with a camera vs. work. I loved climbing the rocks and hiking the hills with all of them all the while capturing the joy that they truly share as a family. Few things make me happier than chasing light and they literally hung with me for every last second of it! So excited that we get to ‘hang’ again when I photograph Z’s birthday this summer…stay tuned for an epic Star Wars party. In the meantime, enjoy these smiles, hugs and laughed that filled the frame for each and every shot.

This session was so sweet because B & M could not have been more of a joy to work with. Expecting their first baby, a little girl, they were bursting with anticipation and excitement to celebrate her and does it ever show in their photos.

I’m so excited to say that baby joined them healthy and happy yesterday and I cannot wait to meet her next week for our newborn session (spoiler alert….she is GORGEOUS)! So I guess this is a walk down the not so distant ‘memory lane’ that we shot just a few short weeks ago.

I remember when I made the decision last year to expand RMP to include weddings I could not help but visualize ‘the future’ and the types of locations and destinations where bridal work could take me. The thought of leaving the bay area, much less the state for wedding photography was much more of a long term plan and certainly something I wasn’t expecting to tackle within the first 5 months of taking this part of my business live. But as is always the case, there was a bigger plan in store and one year ago today I found myself on the island of Oahu in Hawaii photographing the very private and romantic wedding of A and R.

I could go on for paragraphs about the insane weather we encountered, the flash flood warnings, the power outages…it all led to the flavor of a unique and unforgettable week on the island.  We went from Plan A, to a contingency Plan B and then had to ultimately wing it with Plan C. And the beauty of all of it is that it was PERFECT…it was perfectly imperfect and so custom made for these two and it couldn’t have been any better any other way.

It’s been one amazing year since that incredible day and today they are celebrating their first anniversary as husband and wife. I’m only slightly bummed we are not back in Oahu to commemorate as we had planned but seeing as how a sweet baby boy is now on his way into their lives in just a few short months I guess I can get over it. Seems like a fair trade…

Happy Anniversary to you A & R. What an amazing 365 days it’s been and the best is still yet to come. Enjoy this little walk down memory lane. I love you both!

I really love when a client wants to collaborate on a session to make it personalized but still very distinctly my style and philosophy on shooting. There is a fine line between wanting to recreate something that already happened (Pinterest is a perfect example) vs. using something as inspiration and being creative enough to make it your own entirely. This maternity session with E was very much the latter of the two. She knew the ‘look’ she wanted to go for in terms of her clothing and the general surroundings…she gave me a few ideas though pictures and then left the rest up to me to make uniquely hers and my own. When she showed up with these two amazing dresses I knew I had picked the perfect spot to have our session that would give her that organic and romantic feel that she was looking for.

What she didn’t bother to tell me is that she and her husband were flipping super model gorgeous and would basically make it the most laid back and easy 60 minutes of the month for me. I knew when I met P and asked him how he was and he said ‘I’m cool, cool’ that we were in for a no fuss, simple and fun time. Add pretty much some of the most amazing chemistry EVER to the mix and we honestly could not have gone wrong.

E & P – I think you already know I am obsessed with your session and the two of you. Baby H is so lucky to have you two as a mom and dad and I am so excited about the amazing adventure into parenthood that you are about to embark upon. These photos will be so special to her when she is old enough to understand that you loved her before you knew her. Let’s be sure to get her in front of the lens sooner than later…XOXO!
